Volunteer with us!

We have 2 programs to volunteer with us. Our Summer camp akes volunteers for the Junior Leader Program and we have a Learn to Volunteer class that teaches our kids how to work with the animals so that they can sign up for our volunteer opportunities. Once we are back to normal we hope to resume our in-person volunteer program

Junior Leader Volunteer Program - SUMMER CAMP

For those who are passionate about pets and animals and like to have fun working with kids, we offer a Junior Leader Volunteer Program to assist our instructors in delivering exciting, quality pet and animal programs.

The Pawsitively Pets Junior Leader Volunteer Program runs through the summer, March Break and Christmas Break camps each year.  Registering to volunteer takes place online.

The program is available to students from age 13 to 17 years old. STUDENTS MUST BE ENTERING Grade 9 in September 2021 or older to apply.  The Pawsitively Pets Junior Leader Program helps youth to develop leadership, teamwork, and job skills. Volunteering at Pawsitively Pets will also contribute to the mandatory volunteer hours of volunteer for graduation. All volunteers must be available to attend a mandatory training session at our Leaside site.

Summer Camp 2021 Volunteers are needed at both the Osgoode (5721Osgoode Main St) and the Junior Dog Trainer WEST at Dragonluck Kennels (6830 Fernbank Rd, Stittsville)

What do Junior Leaders do at camp?  Junior Leaders work with camp groups to assist the counsellors and animal education staff with daily programming.  The main duties are to help implement the daily schedule, ensure campers overall well-being and engagement in activities and provide a positive role model to children at camp.  Junior Leaders will help with the set-up and clean-up of daily activities and all aspects of the daily schedule. Junior Leaders will be on-site each day from 8:45am – 4:45pm and must attend every day of the session they sign up for in order to complete their commitment and have their volunteer hours signed.  Make-up days are not available. We are a cell phone free environment and your phone is required to be left in our phone box for the entire day while at camp.

If you are interested in volunteering at our summer camp program:

Registration can be completed online.  There is a $50 fee to apply.  This will cover volunteer training days and uniforms.  Please ensure when choosing your weeks to volunteer you are sure these weeks will work, we only accept a certain number of volunteers each week, we can rarely accommodate session changes.

Volunteer application fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Changes can only be made if there is availability.  Summer Camp volunteer scheduling generally cannot be changed after JUNE 15, we can rarely accommodate a session change, but will do our best.

Once you have registered you are confirmed for the sessions you have signed up for. At anytime you can login to your online account to check the dates.

2021 Summer Training dates are tentatively set for June 24th or June 26 at our Osgoode site.  All volunteers will have to attend 1 session. The time of these sessions will be confirmed by May 30, but will likely be between 2pm – 8pm.  All camp volunteers must commit to a minimum of two weeks Monday to Friday full days. (All appointments should be made outside of camp hours.) All Junior Leaders will be provided with orientation sessions and required training sessions that are mandatory.  All orientation and training sessions will take place in Ottawa at our Osgoode location – 5721 Osgoode Main St.  Volunteers who work at our summer camp programs work primarily with the campers and enhancing their camp experience with the animals.  All volunteers will be required to bring a copy of their volunteer hour form with them to the training session.  At this time we are planning for in-person training with Covid guidelines in place and masking and social distancing as required.
